The island of Hvar – events worth attending

 

Hvar is famous for its summer events, such as "Hvar Summer Festival", which includes concerts and theatre performances or the „Half Marathon” which is held annually in August. In all island settlements festivals (feasts) and so-called Fishermen nights are being organized. In Starigrad each summer a literature festival "Faro (pi) s" takes place, as well as a film festival and numerous public feasts. Also each year, a traditional Faros Marathon is held, an international championship in swimming:

 

Starigrad also has a children’s offer where they are educated and thought skills such as sailing, swimming, painting and playing the guitar. "Zavaldina" – an event in the settlement Zavala where every year tasting and evaluating of the best red and white wines is organized. The event lasts for two days. In the summer months the village organizes festivals, where you will enjoy the music and seafood specialties and of course the quality wine. During the summer months Vrboska organizes festivities where you can taste the specialties and wine, out of which one must be accentuated and it is the Festivity of St. Lawrence, the summer carnival, crazy boat racing and numerous summer events. Jelsa traditionally holds an annual spring procession of Holy Thursday and Friday, a five centuries old tradition, enlisted on the UNESCO World Heritage List:

 

During the summer months Jelsa also hosts musical, drama and folklore evenings and indispensable wine party which is held in the last weekend in August, where the best wines in Hvar are presented, as well as local specialties and abundance of entertainment:

 

19.07. is the summer carnival, a masked ball. In the settlement Velo Grablje, not far from Jelsa, every year in the end of June an annual Lavender Festival is organized...

15.08. on the Municipality Day on the "square" an entertainment programme is organized. In the settlement Sucuraj there are several feasts during the summer that go under the name of "Fisherman's Nights":
